buy to service

I’m not exaggerating when I say that I know how hard it can be to get ahold of a reliable film camera, particularly as someone brand new to film.

The internet is awash with horror stories from failed cameras or ruined film rolls, and conflicting advice from a lot of film camera fans which can be confusing. Some people suggest you just seeing what you can grab from a local charity shop, others will direct you to eBay and tell you to chance bidding on a banged up camera and some will point blank tell you the only thing to do is buy a “tested” camera from somewhere big and reputable.

I’m not going to knock any of these options, but the outcome of each option is entirely down to chance. Chance that the charity shop camera isn’t full of battery acid, chance that the eBay seller is honest about the cameras condition and chance that the “reputable” retailer aren’t using their online presence to conjure a false sense of security in you.

I like to do things differently. I like to buy everything with absolute confidence. No chance, no gimmicks and no false hope. And so I wanted to be able to offer that to you.

What Is buy to service?

I’m one person who repairs numerous cameras every week. There is no way that just one person has enough time to be busy with customer repairs and to purchase and service dozens of cameras to sell online. I service and sell the cameras that are in demand, but, that means if you’re looking for something that’s a bit more unique then it’s much harder to find, let alone find in great condition. You end up playing with chance again and that can be exhausting.

Offering ‘Buy To Service’ means that most of the chance (or at least frustration that comes with it) can be eliminated entirely. It’s really straightforward really!

1) You reach out and advise what make/model of camera you’re looking for.
2) We have a discussion about what is feasible and what your budget looks like.
3) Once that’s agreed, I will then source the desired camera and it will be delivered to me. At this point you pay the cost of the camera, it’s now yours!
4) I assess the camera, undertake any service/repair work needed and fully test the camera. This is when I invoice for the work completed.
5) You get the camera you’ve always wanted, a guarantee and you haven’t had to play with any dice.

There are no hidden fees, no surprises and no ruined rolls of film. If the camera I source was deceptive and hiding a multitude of faults that make it beyond economic repair then I return it and move onto the next. I’m a bit relentless with it if I’m honest, I just need to get you the right one.

how do i know you will actually service my camera?

Great question! I think about this a lot and it’s something I would be worried about too. I want your experience with me, Roll With It Cameras, to fill you with all the confidence you need. I’m very happy to take and share clear photos of the service/repair process so that it’s visible that the camera being worked on is yours.

Here’s an example of just one photo that I shared with a customer:
